English Story
The Eastern Army won at Sekigahara in 1600; Ieyasu's appointment as shogun followed in 1603. Trace the Toyotomi succession, the Shimazu retreat and settlement, overseas merchant ships and relations with the imperial court to read the battle alongside the political work that followed.
